Designed and built by Gen. Francisco Canton Rosado between 1909 and 1911, this architectural marvel was used by the Hidalgo School as well as School of Fine Arts. During 50′s it was declared as an official residence of the Governors of Yucatan. In 1960 Yucatecan Institute of Anthropology took possession of the building. Nowadays, this beautiful colonial mansion houses The Regional Museum of Anthropology. The museum is open to public during regular business hours. A must visit during your stay in Merida.

Campeche – Case No.6 II

Another image from Casa No.6 in Campeche. This one is a single exposure shot and not an HDR. In my post-production workflow the goal was not to overdue the image and maintain realistic aspect of this historical house.

Campeche – Casa No.6

Campeche – Casa No.6

Casa No.6 is a remodeled colonial home in a prestigious “centro historico”. As historical data indicates the mansion was occupied by a very wealthy family during pre-revolutionary period. As you walk through the house you’ll see examples of fine colonial architecture mixed with vibrant cultural traditions of Campeche. Casa No. 6 contains several exhibitions spaces as well as a souvenir shop and bookstore. The sheer beauty of the house is undeniable and from a historical prospective provides a glimpse of what life was like in Mexico in the 17th and 18th century.

The Door – Santa Ana Church

Valladolid is an amazing little gem in the heart of Yucatan Peninsula. The city is also known as ”The Sultan of the East” for its beautiful colonial architecture such as the Convent of San Bernardino de Siena, the Municipal Palace, Church of Santa Ana and the magnificent San Servacio Cathedral.

The town was established in 1543 by Don Francisco de Montejo and acquired its municipal status in 1823. Its architecture resembles a typical Spanish design with wide streets, prominent main plaza (Zocalo) and wealthy mansions built around “centro historico”.

Valladolid – truly a magical experience not to be missed!

Merida – Monument to the Fatherland

Merida – Monument to the Fatherland

During Merida’s period of success at the beginning of 20th century the famous Paseo de Montejo was created to mimic elaborate boulevards of Paris. It passes through a beautiful residential district and contains number of historical buildings. The most important is by far the Monument to the Fatherland (Monumento a la Patria), constructed between 1946 and 1957 by the Columbian sculptor Rómulo Rozo. The large rose-colored sculpture depicts both pre-Hispanic and colonial history of Mexico. An eternal flame burns in the grasp of towering Mayan chieftain.
